1. Entry
Entry into qualifying rounds will be accepted from current members of the English Golf Captains programme who are in possession of an Active CONGU Handicap.
A player may compete in one of the qualifying rounds arranged by the English Golf Union. Players may compete in additional events if places are available.
Players are required to enter on the official entry form. Qualifying places will be filled in order of receipt of entry. Where qualifying rounds are oversubscribed players will be placed on a Reserve list.
No entry fee will be refunded unless written/email/fax notice of withdrawal is received before the closing date for entries, except to any entrant who may be balloted out and who does not subsequently compete.
2. Qualification and Exemption
(a) The leading eight players from each qualifying round shall qualify for the final. In the event of a tie for these places ties will be decided as per the EGU's General Conditions - Clause 7(b).
(b) The winner and runner up of a County Union Golf Captains event shall gain entry into qualifying at a venue decided by the English Golf Union.
(c) Where players who have qualified for the Final are unable to compete places shall be taken from the relevant qualifying round.
(d) The following are exempt from qualifying:
(1) The winner of the English Golf Captains Final the previous year.
(2) The Club Captain of the Club hosting the Final.
3. Decision on Ties
Ties will be decided on the last 9, 6, 3 or 1 hole. If a tie still arises it shall be decided on the 9, 6, 3 or 1 holes of the front nine. Where a two tee start is in operation the back 9 holes refers to holes 10-18.
4. Times of Starting (Rule 6-3)
(a) All players in a group must be present and ready to play at the time estableished by the Committee. Please report to the starter at least five minutes before your start time.
5. Distance Measuring Devices Rules of Golf (14-3)
A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated round a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other Conditions that might affect his play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature etc.) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the Penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.
NOTE:
i. Trolleys with a distance-measuring capability: May be used provided any other features, which are non-conforming, are disabled (e.g. ‘taped up' or switched off)
ii. Multi-functional devices (such as a mobile phone) with a distance-measuring application: May be used provided the application is restricted to "distance only" and the device does not have any other "non-conforming" features.
6. Suspension of Play Due to a Dangerous Situation (Note to Rule 6-8b)
The specimen on Condition in the Rules of Golf (pages 144-145) is in effect i.e. when the klaxon sounds, players must be discontinued immediately.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF CONDITION: Disqualification.
Note:
i. A suspension of play for a dangerous situation will be signalled by a prolonged blast of the klaxon
ii. Other suspensions will be signalled by three short blasts of the klaxon
Resumption of Play (Rule 6-8b) will signalled by two short blasts of the klaxon. Competitors must then (but not before then) resume play.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE: Disqualification
Note:
i. Competitors will be informed by EGC Officials that play will resume shortly
ii. Competitors will be given sufficient time to reach the place where they were on the course before play was suspended.
7. Disputes will be settled by the Committee. The Committees decision will be final.
